When
the season opened on the October long weekend there were still plenty
of rainbows spawning. For those of us lucky enough to have the time to
target them those fish provided an easy way to get used to stream
fish
ing after the winter layoff. Its surprising however how quickly
they dropped back into the lakes as the warmer days signaled the onset
of spring. Now that has happened we have reverted to traditional
techniques to target resident browns and rainbows. We have had a great
hopper season with browns particularly taking well presented hopper
flies drifted over their holding locations. More recently beetles have
also been on the menu and both Cock-y-bonddu and red tags have been
working well. Late afternoon and evening hatches have been a feature
also with both caddis and mayflies turning up.
