Kalkite - Lake Jindabyne

It seems as though Cretan Carp have made their way into the food chain at Lake Jindabyne. If you investigate what you otherwise would have thought was a hatch of midges you will now often find that it is schools of the Cretan Carp just under the surface. The trout seem to have changed their feeding habits to include the carp and in particular you find it pretty easy to catch rainbow trout as they attack the schools. I caught 4 over a cumulative 4 hours of fishing this week. The fly I used was a Tom Jones but I suspect that a Mrs Simpson or Hamill's Killer would work just as well. The trick is to closely cover rises so that the trout turn to your fly rather than the numerous carp in the immediate vicinity.
