2nd - 22nd January 2002
Report
on the Northern end of Lake
Jindabyne:
Water levels are down at least two meters on water levels for the same
time last year with
noticeable level declines every couple of days. At the same time we
have
suffered strong winds form variable direction almost every day in
January.
Normally at this time of year I expect fish to move into the margins at
dawn and dusk working emerging insect life. Except for two
evenings I couldn't detect any hatches. On the first of those two
nights I saw two fish working
but they both disappeared almost as I arrived at the water edge. On the
second even with swarms of insect life about there was no evidence of
fish
working.
From 2nd Jan to 22nd Jan I didn't have a touch never mind catch a fish!
I have spoken to a number of other fishermen - bait, lure and fly and
only found knowledge of two fish being taken during that period. I saw
one chap
catch a rainbow trolling attractors and a spinner quite deep and one of
the locals poleroided a brown 6am last Thursday on the far side of the
lake.
Hopefully Ted will do better in the rivers this week.
